A Morris County school district is dropping its transgender policy as part of an agreement ending a federal lawsuit over parental notification.

The lawsuit, filed in August by the conservative parents rights group Moms for Liberty, accused the Chatham school district of allowing teachers and staff to keep a student's gender transition from parents, including the names and pronouns used at school.

After previously refusing to change the policy, the district agreed to drop it as part of the settlement.

The board of education also agreed not to readopt the policy unless required by law.
