Police say items of value were stolen from a building on the Piscataway campus of Rutgers University Tuesday afternoon.

The burglary happened sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical Research Tower on Hoes Lane in Piscataway, Rutgers University police Department said on social media.

"In this incident, it was reported that the perpetrator(s) entered an unsecured office and removed items of value. There were no signs of forced entry reported, no individuals were confronted during this incident, and no injuries resulted," police said.

According to police, there is limited information about the perpetrator, and investigators are asking anyone who might have information to contact the university's detective bureau at 848-932-8025.

Police also advise people who live, work and attend classes on campus to take "reasonable" safety precautions and stay alert. Police say doors to residences and vehicles should remain locked, and those on campus should avoid leaving valuables unattended in offices, workspaces or residence halls. Police also urge the community to report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.
