Several people face charges after a violent street takeover in Secaucus that damaged a police vehicle and injured onlookers.

Secaucus police say the incident happened Aug. 31 at the intersection of Secaucus Road and County Avenue, where vehicles drove recklessly and pyrotechnics were set off under a marked patrol car.

Participants jumped on the hood of the vehicle, causing thousands of dollars in damage, and one driver struck onlookers during the chaos.

Four drivers were arrested Oct. 6 and charged with riot, creating a risk of widespread injury and endangering another person. They also received numerous motor vehicle summonses.

In December, eight more individuals were charged by complaint summons, along with two juveniles. Additional charges include criminal mischief and obstructing the administration of law.

Police say three vehicles were seized, and 33 motor vehicle summonses were issued for equipment violations.

Chief Dennis Miller said the department worked swiftly to hold those accountable and thanked multiple units and agencies for assisting in the investigation.
