Alexander Serrano, 33, from East Rutherford, has been charged with driving under the influence in connection with a deadly crash in Roxbury.

The crash occurred on Monday morning when Serrano's vehicle crashed into a tree along Howard Boulevard, resulting in the death of 30-year-old passenger Esmeralda Melchar.

Serrano is scheduled to appear in court on June 9.
