More than two-thirds of United States Postal Service workers in New Jersey are eligible for retirement – prompting New Jersey offices to find new workers.

Over 400 mail carrier positions are available throughout the state, and USPS is looking to hire pre-career employees who plan to work full time and stay long term.

"We have some hotspots. Paterson, the City of Newark, Trenton, Camden, Morris County. But we have openings all over the state," said USPS human resources employee Jaya Bhambhwani.

The USPS is hosting five job fairs in Parsippany, Hackensack, Paterson, New Brunswick, and Trenton this week.

The starting salary is just over $19 per hour with benefits. Workers can start at around a $46,000 annual salary and receive pay increases every two years.

"If you apply right now, you can be hired by Christmas. That's how soon you can be hired within the postal service," said Newark Postmaster Silvia Glover.

To apply at one of the sites, you'll need to bring a driver's license and have two years-worth of working experience.

"The two things we highlight [are] coming to work every day and working safe. If you can meet those requirements, you can join the rewarding career at the postal service," Glover said.
