Two pedestrians were killed Tuesday in separate accidents in the northern portion of the state.
A person crossing the intersection of Raymond Boulevard and Mulberry Street in Newark just after 2 p.m. was struck and killed by an armored truck. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several hours earlier, a woman died after being hit by a dump truck in Union City. The woman, who was in her late 20s or early 30s, was crossing the Marginal Highway near Route 495 westbound when she was hit by the dump truck making a right turn.
According to investigators, the woman had the signal to cross and the truck had a green light at the same time. The woman later died at the hospital.
Police are investigating to see if there were any mechanical failures with the truck. They do not believe the driver was speeding or using a cellphone.
The identities of both victims have not yet been released.
