Two people died after a pontoon boat carrying seven people capsized in the Manasquan Inlet Friday afternoon, according to state police.
Everyone aboard, all of whom were males, had been tossed into the water after the 30-foot boat tipped over at around 1:30 p.m.
Good Samaritans in other boats and even a nearby surfer scrambled to pull people to safety as the Coast Guard, NYPD divers and other agencies rushed to the scene.
Witnesses say they saw life jackets floating in the water. At least one person was treated for cardiac arrest.
Witnesses say the boat passed dangerously close to an outcropping of rocks about 1,000 feet offshore before flipping in the choppy waters.
Police identified the two men who died as Alex Osadchy, 66, and Grigory Klokishner, 74.
