A 16-year-old boy died after being shot twice in East New York on Friday, according to police.

Police responded just after 4:15 p.m. at 909 Livonia Ave. near the New Lots Avenue subway station entrance.

Upon arrival, they found Marquise Byfield with gunshot wounds to his torso and groin.

He was transported to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Medical Center in critical condition and later pronounced dead. No arrests have been made as of Saturday morning.

On Friday night, Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted on social media that he is devastated upon hearing the news of the killing of the teenager.

Mamdani said he spoke with Marquise's mother and expressed his condolences. "She shared that Marquise was just weeks away from starting his first summer job — something he was excited and hopeful about," Mayor Mamdani wrote.

"No teenager in New York City should ever fall victim to gun violence, and no family should ever have to endure this kind of pain," said Mamdani. Every shooting death is a tragedy, and it is especially heartbreaking when a young life is taken far too soon."
