An early morning fire in a Summit apartment building left at least 15 families displaced Sunday.
The five-alarm fire on Summit Avenue broke out around 5:30 a.m.
Fire officials say several were injured and taken to the hospital after they jumped out of windows to escape the flames.
They say there were also numerous other rescues of people inside the apartments.
Crews battled both the flames and cold in extinguishing the fire. Everything water touched turned to ice in the 6 degree temperatures.
Officials tell News 12 the building is severely damaged and will have to be torn down.
No firefighters were injured.
The owner of the Committed Pig restaurant down the street opened its doors for the victims during the frigid wait.
News 12 is told the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced families.
