New York, Connecticut and New Jersey will require visitors from states with high coronavirus infection rates to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival, beginning today, the three governors announced.
What was presented as a "travel advisory" affects three adjacent Northeastern states that after time were able to check the spread of the virus this spring as New York City became a hot spot for the pandemic.
The quarantine is voluntary but "urgent guidance," Lamont announced at a briefing in Hartford, noting it will be enforced differently in each state. Connecticut is considering putting up signs at entry points and getting the word out via social media.
The travel advisory applies to anyone traveling from a state with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 1,000 residents over a seven-day average or a state with a 10% or higher posititivety rate over the same seven-day average.

States currently over the threshold are Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington, Utah and Texas.
Lamont says the advisory applies to anyone visiting Connecticut from one of the "hot spot" states or residents returning home from there.
He says travelers will have to show that they have tested negative for the virus or they have to quarantine.
Lamont says the state is talking to hotel owners and travel agents to make sure they spread the word before travelers arrive in Connecticut.
