Police: 12-year-old arrested for carrying gun, biting police officer in Atlantic City
Authorities say a 12-year-old boy from Atlantic City was charged for carrying a gun and biting a police officer Thursday.
Police say the incident happened around 2 p.m. in a convenience store on New York Avenue. They say the boy was seen with a gun in his waistband and that he tried to run away through an employee area.
Police say an officer grabbed the boy as they exited the store and placed him in custody. The boy resisted while trying to reach for the handgun in his waistband, according to police. During a lengthy struggle, police say the boy bit an officer and caused an injury to his hand.
The boy was later arrested. He faces weapons charges and counts of resisting arrest and aggravated assault.
