(AP) - A young girl sitting on her porch withfamily members was wounded Sunday afternoon when shots rang out ona street in northern New Jersey.
Ten-year-old Qualiyah Davis was struck in thestomach by a stray bullet and taken to University Hospital inNewark, where she was undergoing surgery Sunday night. However,authorities said her wound was not considered life-threatening.
Witnesses said a passing car stopped near the girl's Irvingtonhome just after 3 p.m. A man then got out and sprayed the area withgunfire before fleeing in the vehicle as neighbors and relativesrushed to the girl's aid.
It was not immediately clear what sparked the shooting or whothe gunman's target was, but authorities described the girl as aninnocent bystander.
