1 dead, 23 injured after tree strikes NJ Transit train in Mansfield

River Line service is suspended in both directions.

A train operator was killed and 23 passengers were injured when a tree struck a train north of the Roebling Station in Mansfield Township Monday morning.
New Jersey Transit officials say the incident occurred around 6:04 a.m. as the River Line train was traveling southbound from Trenton. The tree struck the front of the train as it traveled along the tracks. Of the 42 customers on board, 23 sustained non life-threatening injuries, mostly minor.
Multiple EMS, police and fire crews responded to the location. Patients were transported to hospitals for treatment.
Police have roads closed in the area, including the southbound side of U.S.-130 in Burlington County.
The incident is being investigated by New Jersey Transit Police. River Line service remains suspended in both directions between Florence and Trenton with substitute bus service being provided.
