(01/31/06) WOODBRIDGE ? Residents in Woodbridge are calling for a solution to a rash of recent flooding that has plagued the area.
Those living in one section of Woodbridge say their streets now flood during average rainstorms. Residents blame booming Woodbridge development and the construction of a nearby parking lot for the problem. According to homeowners, all the new pavement is allowing excess water to run off into their neighborhoods.
The Army Corps of Engineers says a series of dykes and levies, costing $20 million, will fix the problem. However, Woodbridge Mayor Frank Pelzman doesn?t feel that price tag is cost-effective. Pelzman is now working with an outside engineering firm to find a cheaper answer.
