Women encouraged to forgo shaving this January
A social media influencer is encouraging women to let their body hair grow out this January.
The “Januhairy” movement was started by Laura Jackson, who is asking women to quit waxing and shaving for the next few weeks to encourage female empowerment.
The movement is similar to “No Shave November,” during which men grow beards in November to raise cancer awareness.
So how do some New Jerseyans feel about this moment?
“I think it’s a little gross. But to each his own, I guess,” said Kelly Prefling of Rahway.
Union resident Ariana Luciano says that she thinks it is great.
“If it’s just not what they feel is natural, it’s all good to be in your natural, hairy self,” she said.
Gary Carvalho of Roselle agrees with the motivation behind Jackson’s movement, but said “Facial hair and body hair are two different things. Men look good with facial hair. Women don’t look good with hairy legs.”
Jackson wrote on Instagram that she first grew out her body hair for a performance as part of her drama degree and then decided to keep with it.
