Police are asking for the public's help identifying a woman accused of robbing a 56-year-old woman and injuring a bystander in Eastchester Bay on Friday afternoon.
According to the NYPD, the incident happened shortly after 1 p.m. near Randall Avenue and the Throgs Neck Expressway.
Investigators said the suspect approached a 56-year-old woman, punched her and stole her chain. The victim suffered injuries to her face, chest and hip, police said.
Authorities said a 37-year-old bystander attempted to intervene during the robbery but was pushed to the ground by the suspect.
Both women were taken to a local hospital and were listed in stable condition, according to police.
The NYPD released images of the woman they are seeking to identify. Police also released photos showing the suspect standing next to a gray Nissan sedan. Investigators believe the vehicle was used to get away, traveling south on the Throgs Neck Expressway after the robbery.
Police described the woman as approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds.
Residents in the area expressed surprise after learning about the incident.
"I am shocked. People are nice and it's a wonderful area. It's quiet and my son goes to school over there," Stephen said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
