A Jersey City woman was injured after she jumped from the window of her upper-floor apartment to escape a fire.
Fire broke out around 4:15 p.m. Thursday at 50 Jones St. in Jersey City.
Jersey City Fire Chief Steven McGill says that that Jersey City police officers were in the area and saw the smoke from the fire. The officers went into the building and started to evacuate people, according to McGill.
The apartment is connected to two neighboring buildings, but McGill says that the fire did not spread. Some residents were evacuated from the neighboring buildings as a precaution
The woman who jumped was taken to the hospital, but the extent of her injuries were not immediately known.
McGill says that the residents on the fourth and fifth floors of the apartment may not be able to return to the building today.
