Train service was temporarily suspended early Wednesday morning after a woman was struck and killed by a train headed to Port Jervis, New Jersey Transit officials said.
The train, which was carrying 22 customers and crew, departed Hoboken at 12:39 a.m. It was scheduled to arrive in Port Jervis at 3:15 a.m. but was cancelled following the incident.
According to a statement from NJ Transit, the train "struck and fatally injured an adult female pedestrian just west of Rutherford Station at Paterson Avenue."
Train service on the Main/Bergen/Port Jervis Line was temporarily suspended in both directions but has since returned to normal. Officials say none of the people on the train were injured.
No additional information about the victim or the circumstances was provided.
