The train, which was carrying 22 customers and crew, departed Hoboken at 12:39 a.m. It was scheduled to arrive in Port Jervis at 3:15 a.m. but was cancelled following the incident.

According to a statement from NJ Transit, the train "struck and fatally injured an adult female pedestrian just west of Rutherford Station at Paterson Avenue."
