An NJ Transit train struck and fatally injured a woman early Friday morning at a train station in Essex County.
NJ Transit officials told News 12 the incident happened around 1 a.m. at the Highland Avenue station in Orange.
Train 442 left Gladstone just over an hour earlier at 11:53 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Hoboken Terminal at 1:22 a.m. on the Morris and Essex Line.
NJ Transit says the train “struck and fatally injured a female trespasser.” The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
“No injuries were reported to the eight customers or crew on board, ” NJ Transit said.
Train service on the Morris and Essex Line remains in operation, and New Jersey Transit Police are leading the investigation.
