A winter storm caused a messy, wet say across New Jersey.
Gov. Phil Murphy suggested workers leave early if possible to ease what could have been a rough commute home. The snow turned into a wintry mix just in time for the evening rush hour.
The state pretreated roadways and prepositioned tow trucks. A state of emergency took effect in New Jersey at 5 a.m. Wednesday. The New Jersey State Police also issued a commercial vehicle travel ban on all interstates that cross the state. That ban was lifted after 5 p.m.
Most of New Jersey is under a winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service. Many schools canceled classes or held early dismissals.
The snow that started late Wednesday morning eventually turned into rain by early Wednesday night. Temperatures should also rise above freezing by the nighttime hours.
News 12 New Jersey meteorologists say that the rain, coupled with the melting snow, could pose some flooding risks around the state.
Temperatures for Thursday are expected to be above 50.
