A group of international wine producers say that wine production is expected to fall to its lowest point in more than half a century – all due to the weather.
The International Organization of Vine and Wine says that an 8 percent decrease in production is expected worldwide next year.
The group’s report, which was released Tuesday, says that grape vines in key wine-producing regions in Europe have been hurt by the extreme hot and cold conditions in 2017.
The report says that wind production has not been this low since 1961.
Wine production for Chianti and prosecco will be especially low, according to the report, because those wines are produced in Italy. Italian wine production is expected to drop by 23 percent.
The full report can be read at the group’s website.
