There is a COASTAL FLOOD WATCH in effect for coastal communities in New Jersey today as back bay flooding during high tide is likely due to the northerly wind, which can prevent water from lowering between tide cycles. Minor flooding in prone coastal areas are expected today. High tides are around 5 p.m. tonight.
FORECAST:
Calmer winds today allow the smoke from the West Milford fire to waft through central and northern New Jersey. The wind is changing direction from the north this morning to the east by this evening at 10-15 mph. The lighter wind doesn't mix the smoke, thus keeping it more concentrated as it wafts through Somerset, Union, Morris, and even Hunterdon counties this afternoon before wafting into Warren, Sussex, and western Passaic counties this evening.
The wind calms through tonight so the smoke should permeate in the northwestern valleys as the West Milford wildfire continues.
Tonight's low temperatures will be quite cold, in the lower 30s and upper 20s north and west. The coldest air of the season has arrived for today and tomorrow.
Today's highs will be near 50 degrees with tomorrow's highs in the upper 40s.
Tomorrow's sky will be mostly cloudy, and it will feel cooler as a result.
The sky clears through Friday with temperatures rebounding into the upper 50s.
The weekend temperatures will be in the lower 60s.
The next chance for rain will be for a light shower on Monday.

There's an area of storminess in the Caribbean Sea that is developing into a tropical cyclone. This storm is expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico into early next week where then it has the potential to impact the west coast of Florida by late week next week. Although this would not happen for another week, it is subject to change as this situation depends on how far south a front moves to pick up and carry this tropical moisture. Stay tuned!
