A man from Willingboro was convicted of murdering a Lindenwold woman he met with the promise to buy a cellphone.
Burlington County prosecutors say Marvin Coleman, 24, shot and killed Maribely Lopez, 21, in 2019 while she was sitting in her car in the Millbrook Park section of Willingboro Township.
According to prosecutors, Coleman arranged to purchase a used cellphone from Lopez through the marketplace app OfferUp on March 6. They agreed that Lopez would meet Coleman in front of a house on Medley Lane, prosecutors say.
But instead of buying the phone, prosecutors say Coleman executed Lopez by firing a shot through the partially opened driver’s side window. The phone that was advertised for sale was discovered by investigators inside of the car.
Coleman will be sentenced in June.
