Wildlife officials have captured a black bear found wandering around Union County this weekend.
The bear was first spotted in Summit Saturday. It was also spotted near Lawrence Avenue in Westfield and on Beech Street in Cranford.
The bear was also spotted in Garwood before authorities were able to capture it. Garwood’s Brookside Place School opened late Monday because of the bear sighting.
Police say that the bear took refuge under a porch along Walnut Street.
The homeowner tells News 12 New Jersey that she didn’t even know that the bear was in her backyard.
“I only know because the policeman was walking in a weird spot. And then I saw him walking into my backyard,” said Jill Law.
Officials tranquilized the bear and will relocated it back into the wild.
