The clock is winding down for Gov. Phil Murphy and state lawmakers to reach a budget deal.
If no deal is reached by 11:59 p.m. Saturday, the state faces a shutdown. But what does that mean?
In the event of a shutdown:
-All state-run parks and beaches would be closed Sunday. It would come just ahead of the busy Fourth of July holiday on Wednesday.
-Many state offices would be closed come Monday, and thousands of employees could expect to be furloughed.
-The Motor Vehicle Commission would be closed.
-The state Division of Pensions and Benefits and taxation call centers would be shuttered.
-Most state courts would close, except for emergency cases. (Municipal courts and federal courts aren't affected.)
