Two men who went missing while attempting to sail from New Jersey to Florida are now safely back with their families.

The families of Joe DiTomasso, 76, and Kevin Hyde, 65, assumed they might never come home again, after going missing for 10 days.

The pair started their voyage in Cape May and planned to travel to Marathon, Florida. The United States Coast Guard reported that their boat, Atrevida II, apparently ran out of fuel and out of power. The boat was eventually spotted more than 200 miles east of Delaware Tuesday afternoon.

“We were just hanging on. [The crew] saw us and picked us up. Finding a needle in a haystack, the waves were bigger than my boat and the wind was severe,” says Hyde, who owns the boat.

“Every morning I would kiss this necklace and say the ‘Our Father.’ If no one believes there's no Lord, there is a problem,” says DiTomasso.

The pair also had a dog named Minnie with them. They were transferred to a vessel and checked out by the Coast Guard after their rescue.

The men did not display any major health effects from being out at sea for so long.
