A 16-year-old tennis player from Wayne has been selected to represent the United States at an international junior tennis competition in Cairo, Egypt, next month.
Izyan Ahmad is one of three players nominated to the U.S. boys' team for the Junior Davis Cup Finals, scheduled for Nov. 2-8, according to the United States Tennis Association.
Ahmad joins Teodor Davidov, 16, of Bradenton, Florida, and Tomas Laukys, 16, of Cumming, Georgia, on the roster. Sylvain Guichard will serve as team captain.
The United States enters the tournament as the two-time defending champion, seeking its third consecutive Junior Davis Cup title.
The competition features three days of round-robin play, followed by a rest day and knockout rounds. Each team matchup consists of two singles matches and one doubles match.
The U.S. has won five Junior Davis Cup titles, including championships in 2024 and 2025. Another victory would tie the United States with Australia and Spain for the most titles in the competition's history.
