A water main break caused major headaches for commuters in Edison Friday morning and early afternoon.
Authorities say the break occurred on Route 1 northbound near Woodbridge Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Two lanes on Route 1 were closed due to the water main break, which caused traffic to back up 10 miles at one point.
Crews say a boil water advisory is not in effect as the quality of the water has not been affected. However, nearby residents may notice a decrease in water pressure.
Work on the main was made even more difficult because the pipe pre-dates Route 1 itself. Crews say some important access points had been paved over.
