A water main break in Hoboken has caused streets to flood and roads to close.
One of the city's two large water mains broke around 12:30 a.m. Saturday on Willow Avenue between 13th and 14th avenues.
The cause was a break in a 30-inch main line, one of the city's biggest. This was the second water main break in the area within 24 hours. It is unclear if Friday's break impacted the one Saturday.
Crews worked for nearly 12 hours to stop the break.
With temperatures in the teens, one of the concerns is the water turning into ice. Crews put salt down to make sure the situation doesn't get too dangerous.
As some water lines approach being a century old, officials from the city of Hoboken recently signed a new deal with Suez Water, helping to upgrade some of the city's oldest water mains through 2034.
City officials say the improvements do not come out of the municipal budget, meaning it won't affect taxpayers. As part of the project, 15 blocks and 7,000 feet of water mains will be replaced.
