A major water main break caused heavy traffic on Route 22 in Mountainside.
The break happened late Tuesday afternoon on Route 22 East near Mountain Avenue.
Repairs forced the closure of the two right lanes, leaving only the left-hand lane open to traffic. Images from Chopper 12 showed traffic backed up for several miles.
Mountainside police say that crews will work through the evening to complete the repairs. They say that they expect repairs to be completed by midnight.
