Wall Township WWII hero awarded posthumous achievements

A ceremony in Wall Township honored a WWII hero, complete with a Blackhawk helicopter.
Major General Harry Rockafeller lived in Wall Township for 70 years.
A 9-foot fall bronze statue was unveiled. Rockafeller was also awarded a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart for his service.
Rockafeller died last year when he was 100.
He befriended Wall Police Officer Mike Malone late in his life, and after his death, with Officer Malone's lead, the department set up a non-profit to raise money to build the statue.
"It’s very important that we, as police officers and just citizens, remember the greatest generation,” says Officer Malone.
The memorial will educate the community about the war and serve as a tribute to all who have served.
