Some voters are headed back to the polls Tuesday in Stamford and Darien to pick their next state senator.

Republican Josh Esses, Democrat Pat Billie Miller and independent Brian Merlen are all in the race.

Miller knows the voters of Fairgate Drive well, as she already represents them in the Connecticut House of Representatives.

Now, she wants to move upstairs to the state Senate.

"What I'm hearing from voters is that they need to get back to work. They need to be able to take care of their families," says Miller.

"We are making one final push; knock on some doors, get people excited," says Josh Esses.

As a restructuring attorney, Esses says it's time to restructure Connecticut's taxes and massive pension payments.

"No matter how you felt about last November; whether you're devastated, delighted, or somewhere in between - I think people's attention has returned to our state's Capitol," says Esses.

Esses brought along Themis Klarides, the former state House GOP leader and a likely candidate for governor next year.

"This is about making sure, in my opinion, that people can afford to retire in this state - that people that leave to go to school out-of-state can afford to come back, because they can afford a home," says Klarides.

The seat opened up in January when former state Sen. Carlo Leone stepped down to join the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

A reliably blue district, Miller is heavily favored to win.

"People always say, 'You can't trust government; they don't keep their word.' Well this is a time we should be able to trust government - and keep their word," says Miller.

The polls open at 6 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m.
