Through freezing temperatures, volunteers working with Monmouth County Habitat for Humanity continued work this weekend on a home that will soon be provided to a family in need.
Construction is underway on a house in Wall that is expected to be completed over the next several months. The project relies on volunteer labor and donations, including roofing work completed Saturday by Fortified Roofing, a local company partnering with the nonprofit.
“Habitat for Humanity has a very rigorous process of identifying and selecting people that deserve these homes,” one volunteer said.
“They’re here, they’re helping out. They’re actually helping to build the homes. Really good people,” said John Kabourakis, owner of Fortified Roofing. The company donated their labor for the roof installation, their 15th project with Habitat for Humanity.
At a time when costs continue to rise, Kabourakis says the need for work like this is needed now more than ever.
“The cost of homes has skyrocketed,” he said. “There is a huge deficit right now for affordable homes throughout, especially Monmouth County. So programs like this one through Habitat for Humanity really provide shelter for people that need it most.”
“It’s a 100% donation, including the labor,” Kabourakis added. “It just takes time to get everyone together. So it’s a slow process, but in the end, they build some really nice, fantastic homes.”
