U.S. veterans who gave their lives for their country were honored in a special Memorial Day weekend ceremony in Carteret.
The American flag at Veteran's Pier was raised and then dropped to half-staff while a bugler played Sunday morning.
Wreaths were then tossed from the pier to recognize the sacrifice. Several World War II veterans were on hand for the ceremony.
Carteret also held a parade Sunday afternoon, and a special dinner for local veterans Sunday night.
More than 1,000 service members from Carteret have lost their lives serving abroad.
