A woman was injured when she was confronted by a bear, according to police.
Vernon police say they responded to the Pleasant Valley Lake section of town on July 18 for reports of a close encounter with a bear.
A woman apparently left her home to walk her dog and saw a bear with three cubs near the home. Police say that the bear charged at the woman, which caused her to fall backward.
A neighbor saw what happened and was able to chase the bear away, according to police.
The woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries she sustained when she fell. It is not believed that she was injured by the bear.
The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife was briefed about the encounter.
