Street vendors in the Bronx rallied outside Sen. Ruben Diaz, Sr.'s office Tuesday demanding their carts not be confiscated for allegedly lacking permits.
The street food vendors say the city has been wrongfully confiscating and destroying their carts for allegedly not having cart licenses. According to the vendors, city agencies like the Department of Health, Department of Sanitation and the NYPD take away their carts if they don't have a specific sticker.
City officials say cart permits are necessary to ensure the vendors are following safety protocol. The immigrant vendors claim they have the proper licenses to sell food, but obtaining cart permits is difficult and takes years.
