(08/07/06) BOONTON ? Police in Boonton have launched an investigation after vandals broke into a local elementary school and caused extensive damage.
Investigators say those responsible stopped up sinks throughout School Street School, then turned on the water. As a result, all three floors of the school were covered with about five inches of water. Police also say several classrooms were significantly damaged. According to investigators, at least four people were involved in the vandalism that most likely took place Sunday afternoon.
Despite the amount of damage to the school, police say the vandals left behind a wealth of fingerprint evidence for forensic investigators. An environmental cleanup company has been brought in for the massive cleanup project. A representative of that company believes the school will be ready to open in time for the upcoming school year.
