The U.S. Attorney’s Office has announced a man from South River has been convicted on several counts involving images of child sexual abuse, and police say -- he tried to get rid of the evidence.
Charles F. Browne, 52, of South River, was found guilty following a six-day trial of receiving child pornography, soliciting child pornography, possessing prepubescent child pornography and concealing objects to impede the FBI's investigation.
According to authorities, Browne admitted he attempted to destroy his devices by throwing them into the bay. The man's iPad and iPhone were recovered by an FBI dive team, and they were able to recover the data.
Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 9.
