United Airlines says employees who refuse to get the COVID-19 vaccine due to religious beliefs would be put on unpaid leave indefinitely.
The new guideline would begin Oct. 2.

The airlines say the policy would remain in effect until they can better determine how to have the unvaccinated employees interact with customers and co-workers who are vaccinated.
United says accommodations can be made for people who have "sincerely held religious beliefs" on a case-by-case basis.
Workers with a valid medical reason would be put on paid leave.
