Union County Sheriff's officers at the local courthouse complex stepped up to help a few unusual visitors recently, rescuing an injured bird and keeping two stray dogs safe.
The unexpected rescues took place on the courthouse grounds, where officers encountered an injured bird in need of immediate care. One of the responding officers, who is also a certified EMT, carefully bandaged and treated the bird before transferring it to a local sanctuary for specialized rehabilitation.
In a separate incident at the complex, officers spotted two loose dogs wandering the property. The officers brought the dogs to safety and provided them with water while waiting for local Animal Control to arrive and assist with reuniting them with their owners.
Sheriff's officials commended the officers' quick actions, noting that whether responding to community members on two legs or four, officers are always ready to lend a helping hand.
