The Union City Police Department welcomed ten new graduates Wednesday.

Union City is made up of 175 officers, making it one of the largest departments in the state.

Police Chief Richard Molinari said the best part about welcoming new recruits is the residency requirement, which ensures that all department members live in Union City.
"We're taking people from our community to serve our community,” said Molinari. “They know the community, they know the neighborhoods, they know the people they serve. And to us, that makes the difference."

News 12 is told the residency requirement has been in effect for 30 years.
