Fans of iconic rock band U2 battled heavy traffic Thursday for a chance to see the band perform live.
This was the second night fans faced delays getting into MetLife Stadium due to the State Fair Meadowlands being held at the same venue, coupled with Fourth of July weekend-getaway traffic.
Fans say that they didn’t mind the delays and that they are used to dealing with traffic when attending large events like this.
“We get here as soon as the gate open at 9 a.m. for the Jets games, so we do the same routine for this concert,” says concertgoer Charles Zimmerman.
Many other concertgoers say that they were forewarned of the traffic issues and planned ahead.
“I didn’t hit any [traffic],” says Joann Long. “We got here at 4 p.m.…to tailgate.”
Members of the opening band The Lumineers weren’t taking any chances with the traffic. They posted a message on Twitter thanking New Jersey State Police for escorting them to the concert so they would not be late.
