According to the MTA, two new bus routes in the Bronx are equipped with cameras and will now start sending out tickets to those who park and block bus lanes.
Tickets will start at $50 and will go up to $250 for repeat offenders who park and block bus lanes along the Bx9 and Bx15 routes.
The MTA says there are about 54 bus routes that are currently enforcing these fines, covering about 560 miles of routes.
The enforcement was put in place to keep the streets moving, the MTA says. The MTA has reported bus routes that are equipped with the automated enforcement have increased speeds by 5%, a 20% decrease in collisions and an estimated 5 to 10% reduction in emissions.
This also comes on the heels of the increase in bus fares that began earlier this week.
