Those looking for a new opportunity can also help keep America safe by applying for a Federal Air Marshal position.
The Transportation Security Administration is hiring men and women interested in becoming Federal Air Marshals. The first day of the two-day hiring event began Monday morning inside the Marriott Hotel at Newark Liberty International Airport.
TSA is hiring for positions not only in the New Jersey area, but also nationwide. Salaries range from $40,000 to $70,000 with additional pay available for those who work and live in the local area, plus benefits. Although applicants don’t need experience, there is an extensive and rigorous training program involved. TSA Public Affairs spokesperson Lisa Farbstein said candidates are going to go through 16 weeks of intensive training.
“There’s a lot of vulnerability to what we do and a lot of exposure. At least on the side of the Federal Air Marshal service, we are the last line," said Dan Brown, Federal Air Marshal assistant special agent. "So if the worst of the worst happens, very few people have a lot to do in a very short period of time, and we want to make sure we get the best candidates.”
“We want to make sure that we’re honest. It’s not an easy job. You’re away from home, you have demands on your family, and it’s a difficult life - but it’s an extremely rewarding one too,” Brown said.
Those applying must be between 21 and 36 years old (with some exceptions for veterans) and U.S. citizens or nationals with a minimum of three years’ work experience or at least a bachelor's degree. The hiring event continues Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m. at the Marriott at Newark Liberty International Airport.
