The Transportation Security Administration has begun new security procedures when it comes to electronics.
Passengers who travel with small electronics inside their carry-on bags will now be required to pull them out prior to going through security screenings.
TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein says that any electronics smaller than a cellphone will need to be taken out of bags for screenings. Passengers have already had to do this with laptop computers.
“What we’re looking to do is take some of the clutter out [of bags],” Farbstein says. “Put it in a bin, especially if they are electronic devices. The intelligence community tells us that’s what we should be looking at.”
The new screening procedures are designed to address the current terror threat by raising the baseline of aviation security.
Passengers with TSA PreCheck will not be affected.
