Donald Trump is under fire for his vague response to a man who incorrectly called President Barack Obama a Muslim.

At a town hall in New Hampshire, a man said to Trump, "We have a problem in this country, it's called Muslims. You know our current president is one. You know he's not even an American."

The Republican presidential candidate failed to correct the man, instead saying, "We need this question, this question."

Trump has been criticized for his response, including by his political opponents.

"If somebody at one of my town hall meetings said something like that I would correct them and say 'No, the president is a Christian and he was born in this country.' I think those two things are self-evident," New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Friday morning on "The Today Show."

Trump's campaign said that he did not hear the question. In a statement, a representative accused the media of trying to make the issue about Obama and accused the president of "waging war on Christianity."

Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton criticized Trump on Twitter, writing that Trump was "disturbing," and "wrong" about not correcting the questioner.

She also wrote, "Cut it out."
