State police say two troopers escaped serious injury when their cruisers were struck by lightning at a Garden State Parkway construction site.

The incident occurred around 2:10 p.m. Tuesday near milemarker 10.9 in Middle Township.

Officials say the troopers were in separate vehicles when the lightning strike occurred. One trooper was taken to a hospital for observation, but the other did not require medical attention.

The troopers' names have not been released.
