New Jersey Transit service has resumed in both directions
between Rahway and Trenton.
A one-car accident overnight on Talmadge Road in Edison wreaked
havoc for rail commuters on the Northeast Corridor. The accident took out
a utility pole near the train track overpass.
Police say the accident happened around 2:15 a.m. A male driver
was taken to the hospital, treated and released. There is no word
yet on what caused the accident.
The base of the pole was taken out, but the top was dangling from
the power lines. This caused power issues for the tracks, which shut down not
just NJ Transit service but also Amtrak service both ways from
Philadelphia to New York City.
