A Monmouth University art gallery is taking a unique approach to bringing to life the destruction of Superstorm Sandy.

Artist and professor Karen Bright combined scientific data with abstract original art to create a display at the university’s Rechnitz Hall.

Visitors are encouraged to write down their own Sandy survival stories on a wall of satellite photographs outside the main entrance. The exhibit also includes debris from stone and trees that fell during the storm. They represent the more than 600,000 homes damaged or destroyed seven years ago in New Jersey and New York.

"I felt like Sandy was forgotten outside of New Jersey or New York. I felt like there was a national forgetfulness. It was always Hurricane Katrina or other hurricanes, so I just wanted to bring some awareness back also to Sandy,” Bright says.

The display will remain open to the public through Dec. 9 at Monmouth University.
