Some lucky drivers saw unusually light traffic on the roads ahead of Labor Day weekend.
Traffic was light all day Friday around the Monmouth Service Area on the Garden State Parkway in Wall Township. Some slow spots were reported further south along the Parkway, but northern sections remained relatively easygoing.
Several families who stopped at the service area said they were amazed at how easy the drive had been.
The approach of Labor Day typically leads to congested roads, but families may be staying home this year because many schools opened earlier in the week.
According to AAA, more than 1 million people are expected to hit the roads to get to their Labor Day destinations.
